Province Announces More Long-Term Care Spaces

A total of about 600 more single long-term care rooms will be made available for seniors across the province over the next five years.

The government says that’s on top of about 600 net new rooms already announced.

Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Barbara Adams made the latest announcement today.

Operating costs will be about 140,000 dollars per room per year.

Funding will go to a number of facilities in Cape Breton, including Victoria Haven in Glace Bay, the MacGillivray Guest Home in Sydney, the Kiknu Long-Term Care Facility in Eskasoni, and Taigh Solas in North Sydney, as well as Waterford Heights and Maple Hill Manor in New Waterford, and Highland Manor in Neils Harbour.

The province says today’s announcement will bring the total number of new and replacement rooms to 3,500 by 2027.
