Province Announces Investments to Address Homelessness

The McNeil government announced this morning what it calls the biggest single investment in homelessness prevention.

It says $20.5 million will be spent over five years for the Integrated Action Plan to Address Homelessness.

It says the action plan will focus on finding permanent, stable and safe homes for people who are experiencing homelessness.

The Down Payment Assistance Program budget is being doubled to expand the program’s lending capacity from $1.1 million to $2.2 million.

$2 million is going to the Affordable Renters Program that can lower energy bills for low-income renters.

The Housing Support Worker program is getting 27 new housing support workers and 500 new rent supplements will be available in 2020-21.
