Pretty Much Everything Cancelled Because of Blizzard

Virtually everything is closed or cancelled today as a winter blizzard continues to pound Cape Breton.

All schools in the Cape Breton-Victoria Regional School Board are cancelled along with Etoile de l’Acadie in Sydney.

The Marconi campus of the Nova Scotia Community College is closed for the day.

And Cape Breton University is closed this morning and this afternoon.

The provincial Health Authority says all its facilities on the Island will be providing emergency services only until further notice.

All provincial offices on the Island will remain closed until noon while CBRM offices are closed for the day.

The McCurdy Sydney Airport website shows this morning’s 5:15 flight to Toronto and 5:45 to Halifax did leave but, it’s best to check ahead if you’re planning to fly.

And Marine Atlantic has postponed all crossings from North Sydney until 11:45 tonight, weather permitting.

And with all those closures and cancellations, Regional Police are asking drivers to stay off the roads until the storm passes and crews get a chance to clear the snow.
