Premier To Meet With Counterparts in Charlottetown

Premier Stephen McNeil is in Charlottetown today to meet with his provincial and territorial counterparts from across the country.

McNeil says a change in Ottawa’s funding formula for health care is high on his agenda at the meeting.

The Harper government plans to fund health based on population and that means Nova Scotia will start getting billions of dollars less in transfer payments.

McNeil says the change will hurt this province which has the highest percentage of seniors in the country.

He adds the premiers will discuss having Ottawa participate in a new strategy on aging at their meeting which will help address the funding change.
