Premier To Make Boat Harbour Announcement At 10:30, This Morning

Premier Stephen McNeil is holding a news conference at 10:30 this morning on the future of the Northern Pulp Mill’s Boat Harbour water treatment lagoon.

The owners of the Pictou County operation warn they’ll have to shut it down if McNeil does not extend the deadline to close Boat Harbour past the end of January.

They say 300 direct jobs and another 11-thousand indirect jobs are at stake.

Meanwhile, Pictou Landing First Nation is hoping McNeil will stick to his word to close nearby Boat Harbour by January 31st.

Chief Andrea Paul says the band is looking at possible legal action if that doesn’t happen.
