Premier Tim Houston is calling on the federal government not to impose a carbon tax on the province.
Houston makes the appeal as the province’s current cap and trade system to meet federal carbon pricing is due to expire at the end of the year.
Houston says his government has submitted what he calls a made-in-Nova Scotia solution for reducing greenhouse gas emissions to Ottawa.
And he says Nova Scotia’s plan is better.
Houston says Nova Scotia’s plan would reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17 per cent and that far exceeds the federal carbon tax reductions of two per cent.
