Premier Says Province Will Stop Fee To Solar Users

Premier Tim Houston says the provincial government is bringing in regulations to stop Nova Scotia Power’s plans to charge a new fee to solar power users.

The fee to users who send excess power they produce back to the grid is estimated to cost about a thousand dollars a year.

Nova Scotia Power announced yesterday it plans to delay bringing in the fee until next year after many expressed concerns it will act as a disincentive and hurt the solar power industry.

But Houston says the Province is going to make sure the charge will not take effect, at all.

He says the changes to make that happen will be brought into force before the conclusion of NSP’s general rate application at the Utility and Review Board.
