Preliminary Hearing Today For Kenneth Laffin

A preliminary hearing is underway today for one of three people charged after the death of 17 year-old Joneil Hanna from North Sydney.

Hanna died after being hit by an SUV while walking home from a grad party in Leitche’s Creek in June of last year.

Regional Police say 22 year-old Hayden Kenneth Laffin from Bras d’Or was the driver.

He faces a charge of attempting to obstruct justice and has elected trial by judge and jury if today’s hearing determines the case can go to trial.

Two other people charged in the case are due to stand trial on September 9th.

52 year-old Kenneth Wilkie and 49 year-old Donna Wilkie, from Leitches Creek, are charged with allowing drunkenness on their property.
