Preliminary Hearing Due To Resume Today For Prison Guards Charged In Death of Sydney Man

A preliminary hearing is due to resume today for two prison guards charged in the death of a Sydney man at Dorchester Penitentiary.

Alvida Ross and Mathieu Bourgoin each face counts of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death.

33 year-old Matthew Hines died after being beaten and repeatedly pepper sprayed at the prison in May of 2015.

Four days of evidence was presented at the hearing earlier this month to determine if there’s enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Closing arguments are due to be presented today.

Members of the Hines family traveled to Moncton for the hearing, earlier this month.
