Power Utility Fined By Regulators

Nova Scotia Power has been fined $750,000 for failing to meet performance standards set out by the province’s Utility and Review Board.

The board says NSP failed to meet 5 of 14 performance standards established for last year, including targets for reliability, customer service and dealing with the effects of bad weather.

The board notes NSP’s statement about increasingly powerful storms affecting the province more often and a trend of increased spending on infrastructure over the past decade.

However, the board says, despite that spending, there continues to be a failure to meet some reliability targets in each year since the standards were established.

The board says last year was the sixth year in a row when the power utility failed to meet performance targets.
