Ports Day, Today

The Sydney Ports Corporation is hosting Ports Day today at the Joan Harriss Cruise Pavilion on the Sydney waterfront.

The keynote address for this year’s annual event will be delivered by Cape Breton Regional Mayor Cecil Clarke.

However, Clarke says he will not be announcing the divestiture of Sydney Harbour, today.

Clarke says he will provide an update on the status of negotiations with Ottawa as the Cape Breton Regional Municipality tries to take over control of the harbour from Transport Canada.

The CBRM says the move would also give it control over development around the harbour.

Also on today’s Ports Day agenda, the CEO of Logistec Stevedoring, Madeline Paquin will talk about the state of the global shipping industry.

And, Enterprise Cape Breton Corp. will update the installation of new navigational aids in Sydney harbour.
