Police Watchdog Clears Regional Police and Describes Boy’s Death AsTragic

The province’s police watchdog has cleared Regional Police of any wrongdoing in what it’s calling the tragic death of a 15 year-old boy in Sydney Mines.

The body of Kobe Clarence Pink was found below the cliffs in Sydney Mines on New Year’s Day.

The Serious Incident Response Team was called in after Regional Police discovered Pink was among a group of teens at a Sydney Mines home where police were called to a complaint someone had sprayed bear spray.

The SIRT says a group of boys who were drinking and underage ran away when they saw police coming.

It adds Pink ran toward neighbouring houses and was chased by officers who couldn’t find him.

It goes on to say Pink was not familiar with the area, and fell from a nearby cliff into the water and drowned.

The SIRT also says the officers made no contact with Pink but were justified in chasing him because he could have been the person who sprayed the bear spray.
