CBRP: Crime Rate Drops, Calls for Service Increase

Police Chief Robert Walsh says the CBRM’s crime rate has gone down.
Walsh told police commissioners today the overall crime rate in the municipality went down by 9.49% in 2024.
The Crime Severity Index went down by 4.24 percent, though Walsh notes the violent Crime Severity Index went up.
He says that’s because the municipality had homicides last year after having none the year before.
Walsh also told commissioners the force is responding to more calls for service, with about 80,000 calls in 2024.
