Twenty Regional Police officers are providing security and traffic control for the Ashby Legion’s Chase the Ace Lottery.
The lottery has drawn bigger and bigger crowds with the jackpot now at an estimated record-setting 2.6 million dollars.
Regional Police Superintendant Walter Rutherford says they’re getting some money from the Legion to help defray costs.
However, he adds what isn’t covered by the Legion is coming out of the police budget.
He goes on to say The Chase the Ace assignment is part of normal police operations when big events take place and extra resources are needed.
He also says police won’t release their costs for providing the service until the lottery is over.
The Ashby Legion and the Horizon Achievement Centre are co-ordinating the joint fundraiser.
The next draw is due to take place on May 7th.
