Police, Ottawa Not Commenting On Results of Gun Program

The results of a federal gun collection program that took place in Cape Breton are being kept under wraps by those involved.

Following today’s CBRM police commission meeting, Police Chief Robert Walsh said he’s been told by the federal government not to comment on the six-week pilot program that wrapped up last week.

Police Commission Chair and District 6 Councillor Glen Paruch says he’s heard unofficially there were 10 to 22 guns collected.

The program has been criticized by gun owners.

Some gun owners protested the program at regional police headquarters in October.
