Police Investigating Catalytic Converter Thefts

Regional Police are investigating a recent spike in thefts of catalytic converters from vehicles.

They say the parts have high-value metal that’s often sold at scrap yards.

In the last 3 weeks, police say they got reports of 20 different thefts, mostly from commercial properties in the Regional Municipality.

Most happened overnight or during hours when businesses are closed, from vehicles in commercial parking lots or storage facilities.

To reduce the chance of being targeted, people are being advised to park their vehicles in well-lit areas, close to traffic, and ideally in an area with video surveillance.

Anyone with information on the thefts, or recent sales of catalytic converters in scrap yards or online, is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
