The province says a pilot project that allows off-highway vehicles to access trails and services through designated road shoulders and roads becomes permanent today.
Public Works Minister Kim Masland says the pilot project that started in 2018 demonstrates riders can use their off-highway vehicles safely and responsibly on designated public roads.
The Road Trails Act also gives municipalities the ability to designate local streets for off-highway vehicle use through bylaws.
Seven areas in the province took part in the pilot project.
The only Cape Breton location was Oceanview Drive and the Gabarus Highway in Gabarus.
