Petition Against Inverness Airport Has More Than 15-Thousand Signatures

The Canadian Taxpayers Federation says its online petition against a new airport near Inverness now has more than 15-thousand signatures.

It says the signatures come from across the country with 15-hundred coming from Nova Scotia.

The federal and provincial governments are considering funding the 18 million dollar project.

But people against it say the owners of the Cabot Links golf course who will benefit from the airport should pay for the project with private money.

There are also concerns an Inverness Airport will drive the private operators of the Port Hawkesbury Airport out of business.

Supporters say the Inverness Airport will give a boost to the tourism industry in Western Inverness County.
