P-C’s Raise Concerns About Local Emergency Department Closures

The Opposition Progressive Conservatives are raising concerns about closures at the Emergency Departments in Glace Bay and North Sydney next month.

The Tories say the Emergency Department in Glace Bay will be closed at nights for all of May and shutdown entirely for nine days.

The say the Emergency Department at the Northside General will be closed for about half of the month of May.

Northside Westmount MLA Eddie Orrell says emergency room doctors in Glace Bay and North Sydney get paid less and that’s partly why there aren’t enough doctors to staff the Departments.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Randy Delorey says the province working to address staffing shortages that lead to Emergency Department closures across the province.
