P-C’s Hold On To Pictou West

The Progressive Conservatives easily held on to Pictou West in yesterday’s byelection.

P-C candidate Marco MacLeod took the riding with 4,159 votes or 72 percent of the votes in unofficial results.

NDP candidate Melinda MacKenzie came second with 949 votes, Liberal Mary Woolridge-Elliott came third with 548 votes and Green Party candidate Clare Brett picked up 82 votes.

Voter turnout was 48 per cent.

Premier Tim Houston called the byelection after former P-C MLA Karla MacFarlane announced her retirement last month.
