Outside Workers Reject Tentative Deal With Regional Municipality

The Regional Municipality’s outside workers have turned down a tentative deal reached last week.

The 300 workers are represented by CUPE Local 759 that reached a tentative deal with the municipality on Thursday.

Local President Kevin Ivey says the offer was rejected by a high number of the workers in a ratification vote held last night.

CUPE National rep Kathy MacLeod says they’re not releasing the exact number at this time.

The union represents members who work in transit, public works and water and wastewater management, as well as parks and grounds, cleaning, and building maintenance.

Ivey says union officials will meet later this week to figure out their next steps.
