Orphaned Black Bear Dies

An orphaned black bear who was taken in by the Two Rivers Wildlife Park has died.

The cub, known as Little Bear, arrived at the park in May of last year, and sparked a fundraising campaign to help the park meet provincial regulations requiring a large enclosure.

Park attendant Jarrett Lewis says the bear died yesterday afternoon following a surgery at the Sydney Animal Hospital.

Lewis says staff noticed the bear was sick on Friday, but he adds they still don’t know the cause of death.

The bear’s remains have been sent to the Atlantic Veterinary College in Charlottetown for a necropsy, and it could take weeks before the results are known.
