NSP Seeking Rate Hike

Nova Scotia Power is looking for a rate increase of about 10% for residential power customers over the next three years.

The request is part of an application filed today with the province’s Utility and Review Board.

The application also asks for the ability to raise power bills in future years through new charges dealing with a number of costs, including costs from extreme weather and phasing out coal-fired power plants.

NSP is also looking for about another 11% over three years from small businesses and about 16% over the same period for large industries.

The Utility and Review Board will be holding public hearings on the proposal.
