NS Reports One New COVID Death, Six New Cases, One New UK Variant, State of Emergency Extension

The province is reporting one new COVID-19 death today, along with six new cases and another case of the UK variant.

The province is also renewing its COVID-19 State of Emergency.

As reported earlier today, well-known former nurse and community advocate Clotilda Yakimchuk died of COVID-19-related causes in Halifax yesterday.

Of the six new cases reported today, there is one each in the Cape Breton County and Inverness, Victoria and Richmond Community Health Networks and both are related to travel outside Atlantic Canada.

There are also two new cases in the Central Zone and one in the Western Zone.

The new UK variant is unrelated to the new cases and involves someone living outside the province who has no close contacts here.

There’s now a total of 42 confirmed active cases of COVID-19 in Nova Scotia, including seven in the Cape Breton County Community Health Network and one in the Inverness, Victoria and Richmond Community Health Network.

The province’s renewed State of Emergency takes effect on Sunday and runs until May 2nd unless the government ends or extends it.
