The province is tightening pandemic restrictions as it reports 522 new cases of COVID-19 today—a record number for the 6th day in a row.
It’s also reporting outbreaks at the Halifax Infirmary and St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish, and at Ocean View Continuing Care Centre in Eastern Passage in the Halifax area.
Of the new cases reported today, 382 are in the Central Zone, 59 are in the Eastern Zone, 38 are in the Northern Zone and 43 are in the Western Zone.
Nine people in the province are in hospital with the virus, including three people in intensive care.
A number of new restrictions will come into effect starting at 6:00 tomorrow morning, including limiting indoor and outdoor informal gatherings to 10 people from the same household or consistent social group.
Other new restrictions include cancelling in-person events like festivals, special events, sports, and arts and culture performances, limiting retail and recreational businesses to 50% capacity with physical distancing, and limiting long-term care residents to no more than two visitors at a time.
The new restrictions will stay in effect until at least January 12th.
