NS Moving To One Patient, One Record System

The province is planning to introduce a one patient, one record system in healthcare, allowing a patient’s information to be accessed in all facilities.

Health Minister Michelle Thompson says the system will replace outdated or inadequate ways of managing patient information.

The Health Department says the one patient, one record system will mean shorter wait times, better care and more time for health professionals to see patients.

The province has entered a 10-year, $365 million agreement with health information technology company Oracle Cerner to design, build and maintain the system.

It says the system will start rolling out at hospitals and mental health and addiction facilities in two years.
