Northern Pulp Asked To Provide More Information On Its Proposed Waste Water Treatment Facility

Provincial Environment Minister Gordon Wilson says he needs more information before approving or rejecting a proposed waste water treatment facility for Pictou County’s Northern Pulp Mill.

The mill’s plan to pump treated waste water into the Northumberland Strait has raised concerns about harm to marine life.

And Wilson says he needs more information to properly assess the project’s potential risks to air, water, fish and human health.

Meanwhile, the mill has been ordered to shut down its treatment facility in Boat Harbour by the end of January.

It’s not yet known what today’s decision means for the future of the mill.
