Non-Resident Property Tax Scrapped

The province is dropping its controversial non-resident property tax.

Changes to the measure were announced earlier this week after many critics said it would turn people away from the province.

Premier Tim Houston announced early this afternoon the tax is being removed completely.

Houston told reporters he made the decision because he didn’t want the province to have a reputation of being unwelcoming.

He also says he’s still committed to finding ways to make homes more affordable for first-time buyers.
