No SPCA Adoptions, This Week

The Cape Breton branch of the SPCA has suspended pet adoptions this week.

Staff say they don’t want people to give animals as gifts during the Christmas season or throughout the year.

The SPCA’s Sylvia Dove says in past years, some animals given as gifts were returned to the shelter because people didn’t realize all of the responsibilities of owning a pet.

However the SPCA in Whitney Pier is still open this week to accept donations and gifts for the animals in the shelter.

The shelter currently has five dogs and close to 80 cats, and adoptions will resume next week.
