No Charges Yet In Dominion Standoff

Cape Breton Regional Police have yet to lay charges after a standoff with an armed man in Dominion on Wednesday night.

Police responded to reports of a suicidal man in a home on Kings Road, shortly before 11:00.

They say when officers arrived on the scene the man appeared with a rifle, barricaded himself inside and refused to let them enter.

Members of the Emergency Response Team along with a Negotiator were sent in and people in nearby homes were told to stay inside.

The standoff ended at around 6:30 yesterday morning when members of the Emergency Response Team entered the home and found the man unconscious with a loaded rifle lying next to him.

Police say it appears medication or alcohol may have caused him to fall unconscious.

The 58-year-old was hospitalized for further examination and was still in hospital, yesterday afternoon

Police spokesperson Desiree Vassallo says she believed investigators were still unable to interview the man, as of late yesterday.

Also yesterday afternoon, police got a search warrant for the home where the man had barricaded himself.
