New Waterford Highway to be widened

The Regional Municipality will chip in 150 thousand dollars towards widening the shoulders of the New Waterford Highway.
Municipal council only gave tentative approval for the funding, as it has yet to pass its capital budget for the 2019-20 fiscal year.
Widening the 5-kilometre stretch of the road between Whitney Pier and Kilkenny Lake road is estimated to cost $600,000.
The province added one-metre-wide shoulders to the section between Daley Road and Kilkenny Lake Road in 2016, when that section was repaved.
Senior planner Rick McCready says the extra width will make the road much safer for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.
