Parents and students in the New Waterford Family of Schools should learn tonight which schools in their area are being recommended to the Board for closure.
The recommendations put together by the local school options committee are due to be presented at Breton Education Centre during a meeting that gets underway at 6:30, this evening.
Tonight’s meeting will mark the third and final public meeting by the options committee that was put together after the Cape Breton-Victoria Board slated a total of 19 schools for possible closure.
Two schools are on the list in the New Waterford family of schools, Mount Carmel and St. Agnes Elementaries.
Later this week, the school options committees for both the Riverview and Sydney family of schools will also hold their third and final public meetings where school closure recommendations are due to be presented, as well.
Similar meetings for the Glace Bay family of schools and the North Sydney family of schools will take place next Monday and Tuesday.
Each school options committee has a deadline of February 15th to submit its recommendations and final report to the Board.
Board staff will then prepare a technical report, hold its own public meetings, and make then final decisions on which schools will close.
