New Polish Shrine in Whitney Pier Park

A new park in Whitney Pier features a Polish shrine that replaces the original wooden one that was destroyed by arsonists, 2 years ago.

The park honours eastern European immigrants who came to Sydney to work at the steel plant in the early 20th century.

It’s located across the street from the former steel plant on the site of a former neighbourhood called Kolonia.

Blacksmith Grant Haverstock from Whycocomagh created the new, metal Polish shrine to replace the one destroyed by fire.

Volunteers say the new parkette is part of a larger project to honour the area as a Heritage Conservation District.
