A new monument is scheduled to be unveiled on the Sydney waterfront, this afternoon. The memorial is dedicated to Sir Peter MacDonald, who was born in Gillis Lake, Cape Breton in 1894. MacDonald went on to serve in both world wars before becoming a Member of Parliament in Britain representing the Isle of Wight. He was given a Knighthood in 1945, and continued sitting in Parliament until his retirement in 1959. He died on the Isle of Wight in 1961. Mayor Cecil Clarke will be on hand for today’s unveiling, along with members of MacDonald’s family. The event starts at 1:00 at the intersection of Amelia Street and the Esplanade.
