The province says it’s setting up a toll-free line for people with mental health and addiction problems to talk with people who have overcome similar challenges.
Starting tomorrow, people with mild mental health or substance use problems can call the provincial peer support line at 1-800-307-1686.
The Office of Addictions and Mental Health says trained peer supporters will help people who are feeling isolated, alone or anxious, and they can also provide information about other available services.
The support line will be open Wednesday to Friday from 5 in the evening to 11 at night and Saturdays and Sundays from 11 in the morning to 11 at night.
The province says in most cases people will be able to speak with somebody the same or next day.
