New Location Chosen For Pallet Shelters

New Dawn Enterprises says it’s using one of its own properties as the site of 30 Pallet shelters.

The shelters were originally planned for a site off Henry Street in Whitney Pier but the plan attracted opposition from people in the area who had safety concerns and said they weren’t adequately consulted.

New Dawn says the shelters are now going to be put at Pine Tree Park at the former radar base off Lingan Road where the non-profit group’s care home and a number of other operations are located.

The group says municipal zoning and bylaws were initially thought to be a barrier to putting the shelters on the property but they say they’ve found a way to proceed in discussions with the Regional Municipality and the province.
