New Licensing Bylaw For Shared Dwellings

The Cape Breton Regional Municipality has a new licensing bylaw for shared dwellings that are also commonly known as rooming houses, boarding houses, or lodging houses.

The CBRM says the bylaw will regulate shared dwellings to make sure they’re operated safely through yearly inspections of properties and also sets up enforcement mechanisms to address non-compliance.

Owners of shared dwellings will need to get a shared dwelling licence by August 20th.

The license application fee is $200 plus $50 for each extra room for shared dwellings with more than four sleeping rooms.

People can find more information on the new shared dwellings bylaw by visiting the CBRM website.
