New CAO for CBRM

The new chief administrative officer for the Cape Breton Regional Municipality is expected to be revealed, today.

The committee overseeing the hiring process is due to submit its report during a special meeting of council at 10:30, this morning.

The CBRM paid Toronto-based Organization Consulting Ltd. 40-thousand dollars to interview potential candidates and narrow down a short list.

Marie Walsh has served as interim CAO since January of last year and said she was interested in doing the job on a fulltime basis.

However, she recently revealed she had been passed over for the position.

According to the job description, the CBRM was looking for a “forward-thinker” able to work closely with the workforce and with council, business and community groups.

The current salary for the CAO is nearly 147-thousand dollars a year
