Necropsy on Right Whale Being Carried Out in Cape Breton

The federal Department of Fisheries says a necropsy being carried out in Cape Breton on a North Atlantic right whale could take the entire day, today, and into tomorrow.

The whale was found dead in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, last week and has been towed to Petit Etang, outside of Cheticamp.

Pathologists with the Atlantic Veterinary College in PEI are carrying out the animal autopsy.

However, the Department of Fisheries says it could be months before the final results are known.

This is the second right whale found dead in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, this year.
