by The NDP has joined the Opposition Liberals in calling on the Progressive Conservative government to cover the cost of the high dose flu vaccine for all people 65 and older.
The NDP also point out the National Advisory Committee on Immunization strongly recommends seniors get the high dose vaccine.
The party says six other provinces, including New Brunswick and PEI already provide the high dose vaccine for free.
The NDP quote Nova Scotia family doctor Jabu Mathew Abraham who says the flu is one of the most vaccine preventable causes of death.
However, he says, unfortunately, most people over 65 will not get the high dose flu vaccine because it’s not covered by the province for all seniors and is quite expensive.
