MV Miner Bids Closed

Requests for proposals to remove the MV Miner closed, yesterday.

The derelict vessel has been washed up on Scaterie Island since its tow line broke in September of 2011.

Provincial Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan says they hope to know who the successful bidder is in a couple of weeks.

He adds about 20 groups expressed an interest in the project which originally had a deadline for bids of April 23rd.

However, MacLellan says six potential bidders asked for a one week extension to gather more information.

He says the government is hoping the cost of the salvage is going to be a reasonable value for Nova Scotians.
