Municipality Holds Special Meeting On Port

Regional Council held a special meeting today on the Port of Sydney Development Corporation.

The meeting came after a recent dispute between the Port and the municipality.

Mayor Amanda McDougall says the point of today’s meeting was to ease tensions between the municipality and port managers, and she says the two groups need to improve communication with one another.

This comes after two port board members resigned following a decision by the municipality’s nominating committee to not renew appointments for the port’s chair and vice-chair.

The move led port CEO Marlene Usher to write a memo to council saying she’s not happy with the committee’s decision and that led to some of Regional Councillors criticizing Usher today.

Usher later told council she didn’t say some of things she’s accused of saying.
