Municipal Staff To Explore Pro’s and Con’s of Selling Centre 200

Regional Council voted unanimously at this morning’s meeting to have staff prepare an issue paper on the pros and cons of selling Centre 200 in Sydney as a going concern.

The request for the issue paper came from Councillor James Edwards who says there’s been an ongoing debate in the community about whether Centre 200 should be sold or kept in the hands of the municipality.

Also at this morning’s meeting, Council approved a recommendation from staff to issue a tender to sell three surplus schools with the assessed values of the schools used as a reference point for bidders.

The schools are Bridgeport School, East Bay School and Portage School.

Council had a presentation from Destination Cape Breton CEO Terry Smith this morning.

Smith told Councillors he hopes tourism on the island will continue to improve to pre-pandemic levels this season.
