Municipal Budget Workshops Begin

Regional Council started three scheduled days of budget workshops this morning.

The workshops are giving Councillors an overview of the municipality’s $150 million budget.

Today’s workshops started with a focus on revenues and the discussion comes after the province doubled the municipal capacity grant this year.

District 10 Councillor Darren Bruckschwaiger brought up the possibility of lowering taxes.

Mayor Amanda McDougall says the municipality needs to know how much the capacity grant will be in the future before it’s able to lower taxes for longer than a single year.

Every municipal department is taking part in this week’s budget workshops.

They’re being streamed live online.
