Missing Fishing Boat Captain’s Body Found

Local fishermen say they’ve recovered the body of the captain off a ship that ran aground near Canso.

They say Roger Stoddard’s body was found on the boat, in his bunk.

The military says it got a distress call at 11:00 on Tuesday night after the “Fishermen’s Provider II” ran aground a few kilometres southeast of Canso.

Three men were rescued but Stoddard refused to leave the damaged boat.

The fishing boat is owned by Halifax company Fishermen’s Market.
