by Health Minister Leo Glavine begins a series of meetings with representatives from the Cape Breton District Health Authority, today.
The get-together is part a number of meetings Glavine has scheduled with health authorities across the province.
Glavine says the goal of the meetings is to discuss ways to improve the province’s health-care system.
The minister will meet with the Cape Breton District’s board members and senior leadership as well as frontline staff.
During last fall’s election campaign, the Liberals promised to reduce health care costs and one measure was to reduce the nine health districts to two authorities by 2016.
Glavine says that such changes need to be accomplished in collaboration with the districts since they have the first-hand experience and direct knowledge to make the transition as smooth and effective as possible.
Glavine’s meetings in the Cape Breton District will run through until Thursday.
