Membertou Band Councillor Enters Not Guilty Pleas

A Membertou band councillor entered not guilty pleas today on a number of charges, including extortion.

34-year-old Cary Paul also faces counts of break and enter, theft over $5,000, mischief relating to property damage and breaching a court order.

Paul is accused of breaking into a Membertou business in January and stealing more than $5,000.

He’s also accused of threatening Membertou chief and CEO Terry Paul in April in order to get money.

In September of last year, Cary Paul was given a conditional sentence and a year’s probation after a fight with another band councillor and two other people from Membertou.

He continues his release and is due back in court on January 26th.
