Meeting Tonight To Discuss Future of Pier Rink

The volunteer board trying to keep the Whitney Pier Rink open is holding a public meeting tonight to discuss the future of the facility.

Board spokesperson Jack Pearson says a community effort is needed to save the rink in the long term.

He adds the rink lost revenue when Sydney Minor Hockey moved to the new Membertou Arena.

The Board has launched a GoFundMe page and has also applied to the Kraft Hockeyville Contest that provides money for arena upgrades.

Regional Mayor Cecil Clarke says the municipality is going to have an engineering study done on the building and look for ways to keep the rink operating for at least another year.

Tonight’s meeting is due to start at 7:00 at the Whitney Pier Legion.
