Meeting Expected Soon Between MacLellan, Raitt

Nova Scotia Transportation Minister Geoff MacLellan says he plans to have a meeting on a number of issues with his federal counterpart, Lisa Raitt. The Whitney Pier native is currently home for a visit, and MacLellan says that the Federal Transport Minister has agreed to have a meeting sometime in the next few weeks to discuss several issues common to their respective portfolios. One such issue is the MV Miner, which remains stranded off Scatarie Island, pending its removal in a salvage operation for which the federal government has so far declined to take any responsibility. In a brief conversation on Wednesday, MacLellan says that Raitt reiterated Ottawa’s position that the Miner isn’t a navigational hazard. MacLellan says he plans to make the opposite case when he next speaks to Raitt. The Glace Bay MLA says he’s also hoping to discuss economic development issues on which the two levels of government can collaborate, including the maintenance of the Cape Breton and Central Nova Scotia Railway.
