McNeil To Name New Cabinet, Today

Premier Stephen McNeil will name his new cabinet during a ceremony later this morning.

The move comes after McNeil’s Liberals were returned to office with a reduced majority of 27 seats in the May 30th provincial election.

Cabinet is expected to see new faces with the loss of two ministers in the May election and Justice Minister Diana Whalen’s decision not to run again.

McNeil and members of his cabinet will be sworn in by Lt.-Gov. J. J. Grant at 10:30 at Pier 21 in Halifax.

Meanwhile, new and returning MLA’s elected will be sworn in tomorrow morning.

The ceremony at Province House is due to start at 9:30.

After tomorrow’s swearing-in ceremony, the House of Assembly will resume at noon for a one-day special sitting to elect the Speaker and enable the establishment of committees.
